Tim Wrather Attorney

Tim has dedicated his entire legal career to the practice of criminal law, as both a prosecutor and as a criminal defense lawyer. After earning a bachelor’s degree from Indiana University and his Juris Doctor from Thomas M. Cooley Law School, he began his journey into criminal law as an Assistant Prosecuting Attorney for the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office. During his time at the Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, Tim tried over a dozen felony jury trials.

It did not take long for Tim to realize that his true passion was criminal defense. For the next fifteen years, he dedicated himself to advocating for and defending the rights of indigent defendants in Detroit in both Wayne County and Macomb County. During his time in the Detroit Metropolitan area, Tim worked for the Legal Aid and Defender’s Office, the Neighborhood Defender’s Office – Detroit, and in private practice. In each position, he zealously defended clients. Tim tried approximately fifty felony, jury trials, ranging from weapons and drug charges, to murder, and gained invaluable trial experience.

In 2023, Tim accepted a position with the Marquette County Public Defender’s Office where he applied his skills and experience in his new role representing indigent defendants in Marquette County. In 2024, Tim returned to being a prosecutor, accepting the position of Chief Assistant Prosecuting Attorney. In his new role, Tim worked closely with all local police agencies in Marquette County, as well as with the Computer Crimes Division of the Michigan State Police and the Upper Peninsula Substance Enforcement Team or UPSET.

Tim also served on the Board of Directors for the Northern Lights Child Advocacy Center and was actively involved in the Marquette County Job Court Program, a program created by the Michigan Attorney General. His time at the Marquette County Prosecutor’s Office provided Tim with a unique insight into the practices and procedures of not only the Prosecutor’s Office, but also each law enforcement agency that exerts authority over the citizens of Marquette County. Tim is excited about the opportunity to once again defend and fight for the rights of his clients and to apply his passion, experience, and unique perspective when fighting charges brought by the government.
