In Memory of Glenn Sarka
Berger Law remembers our friend and colleague Glenn Sarka. Glenn spent his career in service to this community — as an advocate, a counselor, and a steady presence in the Marquette County courts. The years we shared with him shaped this firm, and we carry his example with us.
Glenn was a Marquette native. After graduating from the Boston University School of Law in 1995, he returned home, serving as the Marquette County Domestic Violence Community Coordinator and as an Assistant Prosecuting Attorney before entering private practice with a focus on criminal defense.
From 2000 to 2008, Glenn worked in Kazakhstan, Indonesia, Afghanistan, Iraq, and Iraqi Kurdistan on legal reform and legislative drafting projects for the State Department and the Department of Defense.
His commitment to Marquette reached well beyond the courtroom. He served on the boards of Habitat for Humanity, the Southshore Clubhouse, the Marquette Food Co-op, where he was board president, and the United Way, where he was campaign co-chair. He also served on the Marquette Area Public School Board of Education, the Marquette County Community Corrections Board, the Marquette County Offender Success advisory board, and the Marquette County Crisis Intervention Advisory Committee, and gave his time to both the 96th District Court Sobriety Court and the Marquette County Probate Juvenile Treatment Court.
Glenn was a member of the State Bar of Michigan, the Keweenaw Bay Indian Community Bar, the West Michigan Chapter of the Federal Bar Association, and the bar of the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. Over his career, as both prosecutor and defense attorney, he tried more than one hundred cases spanning every type of criminal allegation.
Glenn is remembered by his colleagues, his clients, and the community he spent his life serving.
